Eyelashes are delicate, and we put them through the wringer with rigorous rubbing, curling, and pulling. Taking care of your natural eyelashes the right way can lead to longer lashes. Try this simple rule of thumb: Give your lashes the same beauty treatments you give your skin – that includes cleaning, washing and nourishing.

Here is a few tricks to make your eyelashes look bigger and longer

Clean your lashes

The first step to make your eyelashes look bigger is to keep them clean and free from makeup debris. Every night, take your eye makeup off before bed with cleansers that are gentle and safe to use on your eyes. You can easily remove dirt and makeup with something soft like a cloth or facial sponge before washing your face at night.

Brush your lashes

Brushing them daily is always a good practice to keep them looking fresh and to eliminate buildup that has accumulated on your lash line. Think you know the correct way to give them a gentle comb through?  See our tips on how to properly comb your lashes with (or without) a disposable lash wand. As for when you should brush them, we recommend doing this first thing in the morning to give your lashes a refresh after a good night’s rest and make your eyelashes look bigger.

Moisturize your lashes

It’s no secret that our bodies need moisture from the inside and out to keep us healthy and hydrated. Drinking plenty of water always works wonders for your skin and is also great for (you guessed it!) your eyelashes. Applying moisture to your lashes will keep them plump and rejuvenated, as well.

One of our favorite methods to make your eyelashes look bigger is to melt coconut oil in the microwave, dip a clean mascara wand into the warm mixture (after it has cooled down a bit) and then apply it to your lashes for a soothing treatment. Olive oil is another natural moisturizing method that can stimulate lash growth. Drizzle some olive oil on a cotton round and gently dab it along your lash line before bed.

Eyelash comb

One way to make your eyelashes look bigger is by using an eyelash comb. We suggest to use a comb twice during your makeup routine. First, comb your lashes before curl them with an eyelash curler so your lashes won’t get clumped together. Second, always comb your eyelashes a few minutes after applying the mascara to get rid of any clumps and help spread them out.

Eyelash curler

A quick trick to help your eyelashes look longer and bigger is using an eyelash curler. Curl your lashes before applying mascara (never curl your eyelashes after applying mascara since you run the risk of accidentally pulling out your eyelashes). However, for the days you are feeling lazy or just doing a quick errand and don’t want to apply mascara, curl your lashes so they look bigger as well make your eyes look bigger and more alert.

Remove the excess

Excess is waste lot of the times, especially during the first few uses of a new bottle of mascara, the mascara wand has an excess of mascara on it. Before applying any mascara on, wipe the wand to get rid of at least 80% of the product. Surprisingly, you don’t need a lot of product on the wand to get full lashes. Instead, too much product on the wand will give a clumpy or messy application.

Change your mascara

Over the years you might have found a few different mascaras that you liked because they added length or volume to your lashes but not both. If you still haven’t found the right mascara that gives you all the results that you would like to see, don’t be scared to double up your mascara. Use a couple coats of your favorite mascara for lengthening and a couple more coats from your favorite mascara which adds volume to make your eyelashes look bigger.

Tight lining

Tight lining is the technique of applying eye liner, usually waterproof, pencil eye liner, to your upper waterline. This is done to give the appearance of a bigger lash line. When tight lining, use an eye liner that is the same color as your mascara. For example, many women with brown or blonde hair use brown mascara to have a more subtle look – in that case make sure you use a matching brown eye liner.

Eye liner

Another trick to get your eyelashes look bigger is by using eye liner on the lash line. Whether you use a small amount of eye liner to smudge along your lash line or go for a more dramatic look with a winged look, using eye liner on your lash line will fill in any sparse gaps between the lashes, so lashes will look bigger.
